The London Freewheel bike ride took place on Sunday 21st of September and was a great way to enjoy London busy city centre with no traffic actually no car as the centre was packed by apparently by 50.000 cyclists, luckily we joined a bit later on in the afternoon where we could really enjoy it at the maximum!

12 km route along the most iconic streets in London, one of the best ride I have made in the city through its unique landmarks: the Tower of London, London Bridge, the London Eye, Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace and the best there were even some spells of sunshine! what a summery day!
An event well organized, they even arrange some hubs in several part of the city where cyclists would have gathered and then be led by experienced riders to get there safely, but I must say we didn’t even encounter much traffic along the way, nothing compare to the daily weekly commute ( I used to ride to work from Tufnell Park to Hyde Park every day for almost a year until I have been knock off..ups )

Chris was so excited that he even had serious thoughts to carry on to go to work by bicycle the following days, but when he woke up this morning it was already another story.

So next year, dust off your bike and enjoy a traffic-free London (you don't have to dress up in this way, only if you want it :-))

I must confess I am not fussy when it comes to food but of course as a good Italian I like to eat well and spend little and these are some of my favorite choices:

Wagamama a cool canteen style Japanese noodle bar with branches throughout London which provide a successful formula: quick and tasty food at decent prices . My choice: n.40 yaki soba, delicious soba noodles with a bit of everything including chicken, shrimps and obv garnished with a touch of pickled ginger

Busaba Eathai a minimal décor on the same style as Wagamama where you share big wooden tables with others diners but I will say a slightly bit more stylish . Yummy Thai dishes from curries to coconut soups. Bear in mind that there are only few branches: one on Wardour St in Soho, one in 22 Store Street in Bloomsbury and one in Bird Street near Bond Street tube.
Expect to see a long queue, or not too sure if happened only to me, but despite the appearance you will not wait for long especially if you are only in two and it worth the wait

La Porchetta Pizzeria Handy branch just down my street in Finsbury Park, but I know have other pizzeria in Camden and Islington, it is a welcoming Italian restaurant. It gets pretty crowded over the weekend and the service is friendly and often Italian so we have a good chat with. Delicious pizza like you would expect from Italy, the only upside down they don’t have the real Porchetta ham which is a shame as the name is recall in it and I must admit I was a bit upset on my first visit as I couldn’t wait to order one but eih the pizza are good and huge like the pasta, which even I couldn’t finish it and even better cheap (a pizza and drink easily with £10). Expect to be a bit “noisy” especially if there would be some celebrations going on (the things they do with dough and pizza trays have to be experienced) and as habitué sometimes we get complimentary limoncello.

Kulu Kulu Sushi in Brewer Street a hidden eateries. Conveyor belt style sushi bar with Spartan décor but the food is excellent value, between £2.50 to £4.50 per dish, and great!
I have been there with my sister-in-law and my little 7 years old nice, which are truly fussy and not used to “unusual” food except for Italian cuisine, and surprisingly they ate even more than me which is pretty difficult!
Great location too just behind Picadilly Circus but tiny place so not a good place for big groups (I reckon it could host only 20-30 pax max) and be prepare to leave your place within one hour which give you in any case plenty of time to enjoy your meal.

Inamo a new Hi-tech Pan-Asian restaurant is Soho which to be honest with you I haven’t try out as just open this month but I am keen to do so promptly. Great review already about the place where you have fun by order through a interactive touch system at the table, quite curious, and you can also personalise the décor of your table by choosing from a range of patterns and colours or even spy on the kitchen via a webcam. The table can even order taxis for you and show you bus maps.

Woody Grill in Camden Town a minute from Camden tube is an excellent place where I have enjoyed many and many kebab. You could seat down, they recently add some nice seats downstairs or even upstairs, or take away. Great also for night out; I am not sure at what time is closing down but I am certain we stopped by some Saturday nights at very late indeed.

Why London?

Well it would be the starting point of our RTW trip and it is the city we have been living so far since 5 years.. actually is now closer to 6 years!

Living in London is a truly amazing adventure although it has been a real challenge for us first of all as foreigners, if you read through my posts you will realize my English is still sh…ty, and also cause its speed and busy lifestyle which make us gone a bit crazy in few occasions.

Indeed is a vibrant cosmopolitan city and if you got a credit card the things to do are endless from nightlife, exhibitions, shopping experience (my favorite), eating out but the good thing about London is that it offers really something for everyone whatever are your choice and budget and even when the weather is miserable, not sure I even saw a month of sun in the whole year!

Some of few freebies to enjoy in London: the British Museum, the Tate Modern, the bustling local markets as Camden Town, Notting Hill, Spitalfield and Brick Lane Markets are some attractions itself or simple stroll around Covent Garden, Soho, enjoy the great open space of Hyde Park, Regent Park, Greenwich or a nice walk along the Thames.

I must say sometimes I feel just I have done with London and wish to go away for good, maybe cause I can’t keep it up with the daily life of a big city, and that is when I feel the urge to escape to the sun and fly out to Italy to fully recharge my battery and chill out on one of the many Sardinian’s heavenly beaches, but the wird thing is that when I am away I just feel I really love London and not too sure if I would be able ever to settle down in Italy especially in my “lovely” home town of 9.000 souls.

What I like most of all about London I think it’s its diversity and I would never be bored just to walk around and see so many people all with their unique aspects sometimes even "weird" and meet people from all round the world with their culture backgrounds and stories to tell, just love it!
